Scrub Fire in the Wairarapa

Friday 20th March saw the Unit called out to assist at a large scrub fire in the Wairarapa. Rimutaka 4926 was responded with the lighting plant to assist with helo ops at Pirinoa Station, which is located between Martinborough and Lake Ferry on the south coast.

The journey was to take us an hour; by the time of our arrival it had become too dark for helo operations to continue so the Unit was stood down.

2nd Alarm Scrub Fire - Silverstream

Hutt Valley Fire Police were amongst the Fire resources responded to a scrub fire in Silverstream this afternoon. RIMU4926 and RIMU4928 were both responded, and Unit members assisted with Traffic and Crowd control along Eastern Hutt Road, while NZFS and Rural Fire Crews from Upper Hutt and Wainuiomata fought the blaze, with assistance from 2 helicopters with monsoon buckets fitted.

2nd Alarm Gas Leak in Trentham

The Hutt Valley Fire Police Unit responded with Rimutaka 4926 to a 2nd Alarm (Smell of Gas) in the vicinity of Whakatiki and Shakespeare St's in Trentham on 15 February.

The Unit provided traffic control and road closures while the cause of the incident was investigated.

Appliances that responded to this incident were Trentham 487, 481, Rimutaka 491, Silverstream 471, Avalon 414, Wellington 2114 and Rimutaka 4926.

Shop Fire in Petone

This morning at around 5AM members of HVFP were paged as part of the Second Alarm response to a fire in a Bakery on Jackson St, Petone. Fire Police provided refreshments for the firefighters in attendance (Seaview Career + Volunteers, Hutt, and Wellington City crews) and manned road closures either side of the incident.

Serious Motor Vehicle Accident - Silverstream

The Unit responded RIMU4926 and 4928 to a Motor Vehicle Accident on Eastern Hutt Road in Silverstream. This incident was car-vs-pole, one occupant died at the scene and another was in critical condition.

HVFP assisted with road closures on Eastern Hutt Road at Silverstream and Stokes Valley, and the lighting plant was deployed to assist the Police with their scene survey.

2nd Alarm Fire - Porirua Aquatic Centre

Unit member Bruce Key was in the neighbourhood when a Second Alarm was transmitted at the Porirua Aquatic Centre. He assisted members of Wellington Fire Support in providing scene protection.

An Aerial Appliance was used to gain access to the fire and remove roof panels to aid in ventilation.

Property Fire - Korokoro

A Second Alarm was transmitted for a house fire well involved in Maungaraki Rd KoroKoro Lower Hutt during the afternoon of November 15th. HVFP responded and provided traffic and crowd control services , as well as some light refreshments. Fire appliances from Seaview, Avalon, Hutt and Rimataka attended the call.

3rd Alarm HAZMAT Incident - Aotea Quay, Wellington

Hutt Valley Fire Police were asked to assist with refreshments at the scene of a HAZMAT Incident in the Rail Yards off Aotea Key (near the Westpac Stadium), on the evening of Thursday 30 October.

RIMU4926 and a crew responded and assisted on the scene with refreshments as requested; our lighting kit also saw deployment, assisting the Fire Crews deal with the Hazardous Materials.

This call saw us working with our colleagues in Wellington Fire Support, and the benefits of training with them and getting to know them are immediately apparent.

2nd Alarm Fire on Jackson St Petone

A Second Alarm was transmitted for a Kitchen Fire at a commercial premesis on Jackson St, Petone on Saturday 18 October.
Rimutaka 4926 and the duty crew responded, providing refreshments and traffic control assistance.

3rd Alarm Fire in Petone

A 3rd Alarm was transmitted for a fire in a commercial premesis on The Esplanade, Petone, on Wednesday 17 September.
Members of HVFP responded and provided refreshments to fire crews in attendance.
