Fire Police Unit Honours Night - a Gold Star for Phil Campbell

Saturday, April 18 2009 saw the Hutt Valley Fire Police Unit hold both a UFBA Honours Presentation, and a Gold Star Celebration for one of our longest serving members, Senior Fire Policeman Phil Campbell.

The first order of the evening was the UFBA Honours.

UFBA 3 Year Service Certificates were presented by SSO David Ackroyd, in his role as President of the Hutt-Wellington-Kapiti Fire Brigades Sub Association.

UFBA 5 year Service Medals (and Silver Bars to the 5 year Medal for each additional 2 years service) were presented by Assistant Area Manager Bernie Rush of the NZFS Hutt Fire District.

Gold Bars (for each additional 2 years service additional to the Gold Star) were also presented by AAM Bernie Rush.

The UFBA Honours were completed with a buffet meal service. On completion of the meal, the Gold Star celebrations kicked off.

Station Officer Sandy Lawson, a Life Honourary Member of the UFBA, presented the Gold Star (and 2 Gold Bars - for a total of 29 years service) to SFP Phil Campbell. A Gold Star Certificate of Appreciation was also presented to Phil's Wife, Mrs Anne Campbell, in recognition of her support and sacrifice during the time of Phils service.


Gold Star holders in the room - and their wives - are upstanding for the Gold Star presentation.

A Silver Tray was presented to Phil on behalf of Arapawa Fire Region by AAM Bernie Rush.

The Wellington Provincial Gold Star Assn Membership Card, Tie and Lapel Pin were presented by CFO Stu Walker of the Stokes Valley Volunteer Fire Brigade. He also presented Anne Campbell with a Gold Star Brooch.

Mike Aamodt, the Patron of the Hutt Valley Fire Police, spoke on the Units behalf and a plaque from the Unit was presented to Phil by Senior Station Officer David Ackroyd, Officer in Charge of the Unit.

At the end of the evening a final suprise was sprung on some of the key guests - Life Honourary Memberships were presented to Phil Campbell, Joe Fraser and Rod Brooks, in recognition of their contributions to the Unit over an extended number of years in the recent past. These were pinned onto the recipients by the Unit's existing Life Honourary Members in attendance - Mke Aamodt, Ray Piper and Mike Buchanan respectively.
