Lighting Plant responded to fire in Wreckers Yard, Porirua

A second alarm was transmitted at approximately 5pm this afternoon, for a fire amongst wrecked cars at the Porirua Tow and Salvage yard. A request for lighting support saw Hutt Valley Fire Police paged to respond.

RIMU4926 attended and provided scene lighting, allowing crews to continue working to safe the scene even as dusk set in.

Portable Lighting Kit was established in amongst the wrecks and copious amounts of mud, to shed some light on the now largely extinguished blaze. Hotspots required attention, however.

On-site demolition equipment was used to good effect, lifting and moving car wrecks and debris around to allow a full dampening down of the scene. Several deliveries were directed at items of interest.

Crews from Porirua, Johnsonville, and Thorndon attended, along with the Wellington City Command Unit.
